As you will all know, a little over five months ago we lost my beautiful mum very suddenly.
The grief really took hold, and for a while there, I was not sure if the dark days would ever pass.
In the midst of all the hurt, anger, depression and loneliness, came a moment of hope.
This hope was brought about by the kindness of two very special ladies.
One day, whilst milling around, doing the everyday stuff that we all need to do, there was a knock on the door.
The Postman was standing with a parcel addressed to me.
I frowned as I was not expecting anything, and then I noticed the airmail stickers and return address, this parcel had come all the way from Australia.
Now there is something you learn very quickly in the blogging world, friendships can span a million miles.
You can get chatting to people you may never meet in the real world and they can become some of the most significant folk you will ever know.
This is how this act of kindness had come about.
I had been an avid fan of the following inspirational ladies works for sometime.
Dawn from
Ruby May Designs and Naomi from
Hello Naomi
When Dawn read about my families loss, she decide to show
me some kindness, the likes of which, I have never experienced before.
This
beautiful person took it upon herself, to hand make me some of her fabulous bunting and send it all the way to the UK. Not only did she do that, but she contacted Naomi and mentioned how much of a massive fan I was, and then Naomi baked some cookies and sent them too.
Well, if you could have seen the rainbow of emotion that crossed my face when I opened that package.
My hands were shaking, I smiled, I screamed, I ooed, I aahhed and then I cried.
I cried and cried and cried and cried.
My Dad, who was looking on, was not too sure what was happening. I managed to choke out a brief explanation between sobs, and then, when I looked up, he too was crying.
Now some of you who are reading this may possibly be thinking "whats the big deal ? "
Well let me tell you.
This gesture pulled me from a very dark place, it showed me that people do care.
I learned that if someone who lives on the other side of this planet, can do this for little old me, then this world we live in, is not so bad after all.
It truly restored my faith in humanity.
Since that day, I have looked at things a little differently.
Kindness, could possibly be one of the greatest gifts we have to offer.
A random act of kindness to a stranger could be the one thing that tips the scales in the right direction for that person. It could alter their lives, and yet you may never even know it.
Its real easy to show some kindness.
Here are a few things I try to do.
Smile.
I smile at everyone I can. Yes, sometimes people look at me like I am odd ( I am odd so that is ok ) but others smile back.
I especially love to get a big massive smile from elderly folk, I like to imagine they are reminiscing about days of old.
Talk.
You know those random folk in shops, bus stops, waiting rooms, who just love to talk to anyone?
Well that might be because they are lonely. Talk back, is it awkward? It might be, but you could perhaps be the only person they will speak to in a whole week.
Manners.
Say Please and Thank you.
Getting off the bus? Thank the driver.
Tell the shop assistant " Thank you so much for your help today"
Tell your husband, wife, daughter, "Thanks for that cup of tea"
Thank you, makes people feel appreciated.
Tell someone they look nice today, give them a compliment, it might make them feel good about themselves.
Give a donation to the charity worker shaking their little money box. If everyone gave even just a penny, then that charity can help more people.
See, they are all just little things, won't take you long or cost you much.
But just think if we all did these things, the world would most definitely be a better, warmer place.
Before I pop off, I also want to say a massive thank you to a couple of my close friends who without, well I just don't really know where I would be.
Rhoda and Susan, you have been so kind, patient and understanding, you are my twinkling friend fairies.
Also, Thank you to each and everyone of you, who has read this blog, made a comment or sent their well wishes.
Naomi, the cookies were delicious, Poppy certainly enjoyed hers.
Thank you so very much x
Dawn, your bunting is in my office and every time I look at it, it makes me smile.
Thank you so very much x
Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.
